Yosemite Seeking New Park Concessionaire | 15-year contract

Yosemite National Park is soliciting proposals from companies who want to be the next park concessionaire. This would replace the current one – DNC – Delaware North Company.

Delaware North, is NOT from Delaware!

Delaware North, is NOT from Delaware!

The concessionaire operates overnight accommodations, food and beverage, retail, auto fuel, recreation activities, and other related services.

The new contract is scheduled to begin on March 1, 2016 and will be for a term of 15 years.

It’s unknown if DNC will seek to continue in that capacity. The contract is a very lucrative one. Basically, they run the park for the National Park Service.  A transition would be a challenging task as DNC has held the contract since 1993. They employ nearly 2,000 people at the park.  Who knows, they might do it again (See quote at bottom.)

Speculation abounds as to possible bidders. I’ll keep you posted as I snoop around.

I can’t find any information as to whether DNC is going to be replaced as concessionaire in March and wondered if perhaps you did. I was a 21 season unpaid volunteer for NPS in Yosemite and saw a lot from both sides and my personal opinion is the park is long overdue for either a new one or at least having a second one. I have seen the list of what might/might not go(it has been in the works for years) but I feel employee relations could be much better and the entire park should not be a money making proposition when it is supposed to be the peoples park.

Time for a new company to take over. DNC is a joke. Seriously 5 PM check in time for tent sites? Who arrives at 5 PM when camping. They have you check out at 11 and need 6 hours to clean what?

Xanterra is the concessionaire for many parks in the west, including Yellowstone, Glacier, Grand Canyon and Zion.

  4. Dean says:

DNC seem to do a good job, coming from the UK we’ve never had any problems with bookings and the service in the park is great, though those pizzas are getting a bit pricey.

Not sure if USA visitors agree, but our perception of good service can vary a bit.
