Yosemite National Park is soliciting proposals from companies who want to be the next park concessionaire. This would replace the current one – DNC – Delaware North Company.
The concessionaire operates overnight accommodations, food and beverage, retail, auto fuel, recreation activities, and other related services.
The new contract is scheduled to begin on March 1, 2016 and will be for a term of 15 years.
It’s unknown if DNC will seek to continue in that capacity. The contract is a very lucrative one. Basically, they run the park for the National Park Service. A transition would be a challenging task as DNC has held the contract since 1993. They employ nearly 2,000 people at the park. Who knows, they might do it again (See quote at bottom.)
Speculation abounds as to possible bidders. I’ll keep you posted as I snoop around.
