Yosemite Quiz

Half Dome – Yosemite Musing

Heck, the weekend is over and back to work. Today I have a guest blog from Norman S. of the Great California Central Valley. In the south it’s called the San Joaquin Valley and up north it’s the Sacramento Valley. I have no idea where the line of demarcation is. Anyway, Norm is offering a quiz for all Domers and wanna-be Domers. So here you go. A perfect score will win you the admiration of your friends and neighbors. Grade you own papers – Honor system and no looking at other’s work. 2 hours in detention if I catch you.  (Harangue Norm if you don’t agree with his answers – see the bottom.)

 1. In 1875, when George Anderson first climbed Half Dome, what was the more common name for the mountain?

 2. What are 3 other names once used for Half Dome?

 3. On the trail to Half Dome, how many major waterfalls and cascades can be seen in the Spring?

 4. What is the only place in Yosemite from which five major waterfalls can be seen?

 5. What are the falls?

 6. In what canyon would you find Lost Valley, Airplane Gully, Inner Gorge, Lower Gorge and Ahwiyah Point?

 7. It’s really a spring, some people consider it the smallest waterfall in Yosemite.  What is it’s name?

 9. What is the closest waterfall to Yosemite Falls?  Hint:  It’s located inside Indian Canyon – to the right of Yosemite Point. It’s hard to see because it’s in the shadows and seasonal.
