Yosemite and Half Dome bits and pieces | Cables ready to go up.

The Tioga Road in Yosemite is now open; this is the Hwy 120 route through the northern area of the part towards Reno.

Trust me this is extremely early. Usually they don’t stop plowing until into June. So now many hikes are open and ready for you. North Dome, Tuolumne Meadows, Glen Aulin (water wheel falls and Mt Dana.

There are no services yet. All campgrounds along the Tioga Road are closed. Commercial services, including the gas station, store, and village grill, are closed. And be careful of high water. You are officially in the wilderness – you take your own risks.

4 mile trail is open. Valley trails are all open. Valley Stable Half-Day Rides to Clark’s Point are available.

With the 32% snowpack making the Half Dome route clear, the trail crews are set to erect the cable system on Half Dome on May 22 for opening May 23.

  1. Maureen L says:

stormy weather possible Monday night through Wednesday night, which could mean snow will close the Tioga Road, at least briefly.

depending how cold it gets, there could be snow on 120 coming into the Big Oak Flat Road entrance, and on 140 between Wawona and the Valley.

I’m heading up for a few days, and I’ll certainly have my chains in the trunk.
