Today we have the pleasure of reading a guest blog from a Yosemite enthusiast and outdoor lover, Kathleen Ball of SoCal. She tells us that in addition to her Half Dome passion, she found a regular hit of adrenalin from a popular TV series.

“By way of introduction, I’ve been an avid hiker and try to get out as much as I can. To help fuel my hiking hobby I discovered a great connection in a television show that runs on the “Live Well Network.”

The “Motion” show is the brainstorm of two brothers named Greg and Jeff Aiello.  (Greg is the host; Jeff is the creator and producer.) They live south of Yosemite. I enjoyed watching their adventures around the country and even to some fun places such as Costa Rica. One episode was a backpacking trip to the top of Yosemite Falls. It was titled: “Over The Edge.” Host Greg asked the viewing audience to email them with feedback on how they liked the show. So I did. I was impressed with their cordial response and I became a weekly viewer.

In 2010, they announced they were going to take 10 fans on a 5-day hike on the John Muir Trail. The trip was sponsored by Southern Yosemite Mountain Guides. Other viewers shared my passion and I went and was able to meet other fans. We hiked from Agnew Meadow to Tuolumne Meadows. (Agnew is near Mammoth Lakes.) Everyone had such a great time that the brothers are now taking guests along on most of their shows. Our community of Motion “Groupies” prefer to be known as “The Motion Nation.”

Motion Fan Gathering

Last year, we coordinated our first fan gathering at the Pinnacles National Monument for a weekend of fun. We had a blast hiking near Hollister, just south of San Jose. The promise of Condor sightings heightened our interest. In July, 2012, I hosted Motion Fan Gathering(MFG) 2 at Table Mt. in San Bernardino County. We had a blast hiking and zip lining. Steve Smith hosted MFG 3 at Enchanted Rock in Texas last November. Now we’re looking forward to MFG 4 in May at Bass Lake, south of the Wawona Gate at Yosemite. Out of state fans will be joining us California folks – coming from Texas, Michigan, Ohio, and Missouri! Many have not been to Yosemite, so we will hosting them and orienting them to the BEST PLACE ON EARTH. Mr Half Dome is going to try and attend.

Check out the Live Well Network online to see if it’s available in your area. They have a Facebook page & we do to. We love to share ideas & get together for hikes. So join us. The Motion Nation Rocks!”
