Perseids Meteor Shower

Perseids Meteor Shower

1. August 13. If you’d like to join me to view the Perseid meteor shower, I will be hiking up to the top of Mission Peak in Fremont at 9 pm on August 13. This is the best shower to view with little interference from the waxing crescent moon. If interested, watch the blog for more details.

2. August 21 at noon Pacific. I’ll be giving a webinar on the History of Half Dome. Details on my blog (HikeHalfDome.com) in a few days.

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees.” – John Muir

Perseids are one of the most spectacular showers to see!

Perseus is to the northeast, so even though the moon isn’t going to set until a bit before midnight on the 13th, view should we good.

peak is usually Aug 11 to 13.

as always, more meteors after midnight, as we are then facing into the direction of the earth’s travel around the sun. (I love the analogy that it’s just like catching more bugs on your windshield than on your back window when driving.)

I was fortunate to be in Yosemite Aug 11 last year to see them.
