The authorities have confirmed that 6 visitors who stayed at the park between early June and mid July came down with hantavirus. 5 were from CA and one from Pennsylvania. The latter died, as did one Californian. 4 of them including both fatalities, stayed in the “Signature cabins” of Curry Village. One stayed in Curry – don’t know where yet– and the last is TBD. Effective August 28, the Park closed all tent cabins in that area indefinitely.
Other news: The El Portal gas station on Highway 140, just south of the the Arch Rock gate is now open 24/7. The station is unattended so credit cards only.
I’m in Yellowstone now. It’s confirmed: Yosemite is better. Ipso factco – sunt hominum. Nobis, nobis.
Unrelated thought worth quoting: “Hey-hey-hey-hey! Attention, crew! Has old Yogi Bear got news for you. Ranger Smith back in Jellystone Park says that Jellystone is gonna be proclaimed the 2nd neatest park in the west, after Yosemite!” – Yogi Bear

One Best Hike: Yosemite’s Half Dome

One of the best things about the national parks is that we can love and appreciate many of them. I prefer not to rank them.
Yosemite is my go-to place, partly because I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. But the thermal features of Yellowstone are unsurpassed and the falls of the Yellowstone River and its canyon are awesome. The Tetons are spectacular, too. To hike from the rim of the Grand Canyon to the river is a continuous adventure.
Yellowstone in the winter is an absolute delight.

That was my thought on Yellowstone – glad I saw it, spent two weeks there. Enjoyed it especially the Canyon area, but thought Yosemite was better.

In the Rockies just now, Banff & Jasper amazing geology, quite breathtaking. Prefer the compact nature of Yosemite, but this place is just as jaw dropping. It’s as if when the world was created they had a big bunch of mountains leftover so just dropped them all here out of the way.
