The staff at Yosemite is busy going through their workflow milestones in the development of the new Merced River Plan. They have just released an element of the process called the Merced Wild and Scenic River Values Draft Baseline Condition Report. You, Mr & Mrs Citizen, can now review it and comment. The report compares research and information about the conditions of the Merced River values in 1987 (the year the river was designated Wild and Scenic) and 2010. Three tenants of Wild and Scenic River Act  are: 1) the Free-flowing condition, 2) water quality, and 3) outstandingly remarkable values (ORVs). The on-line report and can be found <HERE>. Click <HERE>  to submit a written comment.

The heavy March snow caused a postponement of the public meetings on the MRP. These are now rescheduled per below. A webinar will be set up so continue to check the park’s Planning website for connection details. If I hear details I will post them in a future blog.  Spring Workshops are now set for:

April 22   1-4 pm Hydrology/Biology/Geology Workshop, Yosemite Lodge, Garden Terrace

April 26 1-4 pm Transportation Workshop, Yosemite Lodge, Garden Terrace

April 27 1-4 pm Cultural Resources Workshop, Yosemite Valley Auditorium

April 29 8 am-4:30 pm User Capacity Workshop, Yosemite Lodge Garden Terrace

  1. Scott Baines says:

Yosemite sure has its share of ORVs! Lol, I love governmentspeak.

Muir : “the majestic, noble rocks lean back in repose, all awash in glorious light”

    Governement: “ORV.”

*Just having some fun. I am grateful for the NPS and I know that work like the Merced planning effort is what will keep Muir’s Yosemite alive.
