Glove chatter

Half Dome – Yosemite Musing
My recommendation has been to use bicycle gloves for the hike. I wear them when using my hiking poles to prevent blisters. If you don’t, you may get irritation and blisters from the grip. So I wear them all day. You also have some protection if you have to scramble over rocks. Going up the cables they work fine for me. Some folks have complained about getting blisters from the cables. So I have a new method. These are rubberized gloves available at almost any hardware store for about 5 bucks. I carry them in my pack and put them on when going up the cables. The rubber grips like glue when you need full friction with the cables. They do not slide and are full fingered. This may give you more confidence going up. When I go down, I put the bike gloves back on since I slide the cables over the padded palm in a rappelling fashion. This technique may work for you and will be my new routine.

Aside:  I got no takers for the Perseid’s Meteor Shower hike on the 13th? My buddy is now back on so the offer of a Curry village share-cabin is gone. I’d still be happy to have you join us. My friend may still wimp out and I can use the company. Email me to if interested per my blog of a few days ago.
