Scotsman George Anderson was the first human to the top of Half Dome. He is mostly under-recognized by the NPS at Yosemite.
I just created an event here. Join me Oct 13 on a hike to remember the first man up Half Dome on Oct 12, 1875. For ease of “get to” we’ll go on Sat. Mission Peak 9 am. We meet at Ohlone Deli – right across from the college campus at 43625 Mission Blvd, Fremont 94539. RSVP. Lunch after. I’ll buy the drinks.

thanks for the info and reminder, and for the honorary hike in the spirit of George Anderson.
you may be right, but with all due respect, we don’t know that he was the first human on top of Tissiak, just that he was the first European descent person to do it and get remembered.

There is no evidence that any Indians ever made it to the top of Half Dome. No artifacts, no marks, no “left overs.” Nothing in the Bunnell mongraph, Indian folklore or legends. It was just too steep on the backside. Climbers tried for 20 years and could not get up it.
