Flushing Meadows

Half Dome – Yosemite Musing

Flushing Meadows, NY is site of the US Open Tennis Championships. But today I talk of a new flushing system at Curry Village. Yosemite had to close 220 tent and wood cabins last year after the 2 rockfalls off of Glacier Point. Also gone was one of the shower buildings. Boo. It got kinda crowded in the one remaining facility. 3 months ago they erected this unit.

It’s right on the access road to the north of the tent cabins.  Near the 400 series. Not a whole lot of showers and potties but it will help.

The park had a gala grand opening of the new Arch Rock kiosk today. I assume it adds another ranger hut to process visitors. Join me Thursday the 18th at 7 pm at the Brentwood REI for my first Half Dome talk of the year. Drawing for a bottle of Carpe Diem wine or 2 weekend Cables permits. FREE

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “Are you a boy? Or are you a girl? With your long blond hair you look like a girl/ Yeah, you look like a girl – you may be a boy, hey, you look like a girl.” – The Barbarians
