    Hello Rick,

According to the comments on your announcement of the 2014 lottery, it is allowed to be the primary Trip Leader on one lottery application and the Alternate Trip Leader on a second application. I’m trying to find out whether this is still true. It’s obviously pretty important because my alternate and I could submit 2 applications and double our chances if it’s true. But if we’re wrong about this, both our applications will get thrown out!!

As I’m sure you know, there is no guidance on this on nps.gov or recreation.gov. So I decided to call and I got 2 different answers!

The person who answered at the number published on the online application 888-448-1474 (recreation.gov customer service) said that you can only appear on one lottery application, either as Trip Leader or Alternate Trip Leader.

But the person who answered at the number published on the Half Dome permits page on nps.gov 209-372-0826 said it was OK to be Trip Leader on one application and Alternate Trip Leader on another.

So, I’m hoping you can help me figure out which is correct? Did any policies change this year?

    Thank you!

    Joe.

    • YES…it works fine. Did it last year with my wife as leader and me alternate…no problem. Rec.gov is back east and they haven’t a clue.

You may want to see my webinar on getting permits….reply and I’ll tell you how to get it.
