Cables – future plan

Half  Dome – Yosemite Musing

*Go to the Jan 30 Blog to read about the Half Dome permit process*

The Yosemite website page describing the permit system titled “Half Dome Cables Interim Permit System” speaks of:  “An environmental assessment process for a long-term plan for the Half Dome cables beginning in spring 2010. This plan is expected to be implemented in the 2012 season. The quality of this plan will benefit from maximum public involvement. Please check the Yosemite National Park website to learn how you can get involved at

If you want to make your innermost thoughts about the Half Dome cables known, you need to get involved. Don’t complain when the “plan” is rolled out in 2012 if you don’t participate. I will be all over it. To their credit, I am impressed by the Planning Dept’s willingness to listen. It’s OUR Park, merely run by the Park Service.  There is nothing on the website now, but check it periodically. Let’s all get involved!!  An extra set of cables? A snack bar at the top? A massage kiosk? Lay all the cards on the table!
Unrelated thought worth quoting: “The wedges of development are being driven hard and none of the obstacles or defenses of nature can long withstand the onset of this immeasurable industry.” – John Muir, 1888

I wouldn’t have minded a hot tub and a massage back at Curry at the end of the day!!! On a serious note, thanks Rick, for this info. I plan on getting involved in the conversation.
