Rick, love your book and website…. just got back from my second trip to Yosemite and now next year I have the bug to want to climb half dome. Read your book in 2 days… very very informative.. I am just a bit confused on how to secure permits for next year and coordinate it w/ when we will be there that week.. Since housing books up so far in advance is a permit for a particular day? or for the year?? Never got one before..

I want to do it right and have been hiking long hikes for a few years now but need a little help on how to get the permit thing solved..plus I want to go with someone when i go if I can’t get a friend who can handle the hike. any tips would be great. thanks for consideration.

hoping to hike in june or july 2015..

    • John,

      A great goal.

You can only get permits by entering the annual lottery in March 2015. See pg 91 in the book..I explain it all then.

I agree – it’s a chicken and egg. You have no idea what day you will get selected to hike HD….and the accomodations don’t synch.

I like to reserve a few dates at Curry Village tent cabins for possible summer 2015 dates. Then when you win, cancel the others.

You can find a hiking companion at one of my Bay Area REI talks. Or comment on my blog and Facebook. Or you can go with a guide for money. I guide for LastingAdventures.com. They are a non-profit, so way cheap with good staff.

      This help??

It’s the opening weekend of “National Parks Week,” which is brought to you by the National Parks Foundation.

The current Yosemite Guide runs through April 8, so I’m not sure how to find out what the park is offering that weekend in the way of special programs, ranger talks, etc.
