Yosemite’s Ostrander Ski Hut lottery is now on

The lottery for the Yosemite winter Ostrander Ski Hut is now open. You need to apply by 5 p.m. on November 19. You can cross-country ski or snowshoe to get there. It is off the Glacier Point road. Park at Badger Pass ski area.

You have to bring all you need. Food, sleeping bag, etc. Cost is $35 Mon.-Thurs. and $55 Fri.-Sun. Yosemite Conservancy members get $10 knocked off.

10 miles is pretty hefty and they say to be prepared to spend the night along the way if you can’t make it…ugh and brrrr.

    Ostrander does supply water and cooking stove.

    Except for weekends and holidays, you can probably snag a reservation on rather short notice.

    Its called a “ski hut” but I snowshoe there. There’s great backcountry above the lake if you plan a layover day.

    Nice view of Half Dome on the way, from an unusual angle.
