The road to the edge of Glacier Point is NOW open. Usually it is covered with snow from the Badger Pass ski area to the point. Badger has been bone dry for months. Cars can now go to the lookout and enjoy the shops. The severe drought and no snow and little moisture are to blame. While this is fun for visitors to get out early…it bodes badly for the summer season.
Crowds were building today and it reminded me of a typical July day!
The plows are moving to Tioga Road. The will begin clearing that road with opening by May. There is little snow in Tuolumne Meadows and only a little over a foot on most of the road.
Nine female Bighorn sheep were helicopter lifted from the eastern slope – three to a crate – to the Cathedral Range area to begin bringing these native animals back. Males will be brought up this week.
It is what it is….get up and enjoy what you can. The Half Dome cables MIGHT be put up early – current date is still May 22. 2 days left to apply for a permit.
