Linda Eade has named the recipient of the respected Barry Hance Memorial Award. Mr. Hance was a selfless Park Employee who died 1995 in an avalanche while plowing the Tioga Road.
Ms Eade has worked at the Park an amazing 42 years. Since 1980, she has managed Yosemite Research Library (part of the Division of Interpretation and Education.” She is responsible for visitor and staff access to materials on park history, biology, botany, geology, among other topics. The Library contains over 10,000 books and photographs relevant to Yosemite.
I have personally worked with her during the writing of my book: “One Best Hike: Yosemite’s Half Dome.” All my historic NPS photos came from the Research Library. She made sure all were properly attributed. The library is located about the Valley Museum. Most olde tyme photos are cataloged in wooden drawer-cabinets and sorted according to topic. There are many neat ones on Half Dome.
The Hance award is given to employees who exemplify the qualities and attributes of Barry Hance. These include a positive attitude, a concern for fellow employees, a willingness to work with other divisions in the park, getting the job done, and a love for Yosemite National Park. This describes Linda Eade.
Congrats and a tip of the hat to you Linda – thanks for all your hard work.
