Ranger patrolling on bicycle

If you are at the park now or are heading up this weekend, you might want to stop by the Valley Visitor Center on Saturday, August 25. From 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. you can hear FREE presentations on Search and Rescue, Fire Management, Education, Resource Management and Science, and the University of California at Merced Ranger Program. The theme is to celebrate the 96th Anniversary of the National Park Service.

If you can’t make that time, due to hiking Half Dome, stop by the LeConte Lodge (across from Housekeeping). Say hi to the Curator, Bonnie Gisel, at an 8 pm presentation. It will be on the history of the NPS.

I’ll be up hiking HD again on Wed. If you are around let me know and we’ll break bread.

No further news on the rangers locating the body of the 6-year old who fell into the Merced last week. Very sad. There might be some impact on the Happy Isles trail as recovery operations continue.  It had been a relatively incident free summer.

Unrelated thought worth quoting: ”How could one ever be bored with so many good things to see and feel! This unity with our joyous surroundings, this ultra-penetrating perception gave us a feeling of contentment that we had not had for years.” – Yvon Chouinard
