“Today we feature a guest blog from Alice van Ommeren. I’ve known her a few years and she is a nice lady. She is the knowledge bank on the history of Stockton and is a also a card-carrying Half Dome veteran. Can yall check with your parents and grandparents who might have some unusual Yosemite postcards per below from yesteryear?
I’m working on a book to be published through Arcadia Publishing, entitled “Yosemite’s Historic Hotels and Camps in Vintage Postcards.” It is scheduled to be released this summer. The book will use old postcards to illustrate those accommodations that no longer exist, such as the Sentinel Hotel and the Glacier Point Hotel. It will also highlight those historic places that are still there, the Ahwahnee Hotel and the Wawona Hotel for example. I’m also focusing on some of the early camps in Yosemite Valley, such as Camp Ahwahnee and Camp Yosemite. I’m also doing an entire chapter on the High Sierra Camps. historical hotels and camps, and only unusual ones
I’m planning to use postcards from my own collection but in order to enhance the publication I want to reach out to those of you that have also been collecting Yosemite postcards, often for much longer. I know that there are some very unique and unusual postcards out there related to the topics mentioned and hoping some of you might be interested in sharing those with me and others through this publication. In the book, I would certainly acknowledge your contribution (citing the source below the postcard). Let me know if you would like more information on the book, have thoughts of sharing a specific postcard from your collection or are able to refer me to others that have Yosemite postcard collections.”
