Open House August 31

August 31 is the next Yosemite monthly open house. Park staff will discuss the, and other ongoing planning efforts.

Presentations will begin at 2 pm and will last approximately 45 minutes. The presentations will feature: The Tioga Road Rehabilitation Plan, The Mariposa Grove Restoration Project, The Curry Village Rockfall Hazard Zone Structures Project and the White Wolf Lodge & Duplex Cabins Rehabilitation Plan.  I bet they also talk about the Motor Fire.

Join from your desk via webex.com at 2 pm.  The open house is from 1 to 4 pm in the Valley Visitor Center. FREE Park Entrance for attendees.

Don;t know what you are asking.

Yes, you will need permits and the fire wil not affect you. OR you can get permits at 7 am the day before. OR ask on the trail.

Fire update released by Don Neubacher, YNP Superintendent:

At 5 p.m., this evening, the sheriff’s office ordered a mandatory evacuation for the government housing area in Rancheria and the trailer court. An evacuation center has been opened at the Red Cross Center/Luthern Church in Mariposa. An estimated time for re-entry has not been established. All evacuated employees are granted administrative leave.

This mandatory evacuation order was placed because the fire recently moved into Moss Canyon. The evacuation will allow fire crews and air operations to work in this drainage and attempt to keep the fire from moving any farther east.

We are sympathetic to the stress and difficultly this hardship creates and are committed to keeping our employees informed to the best of our ability. We encourage you to keep in touch with you supervisor and for up-to-date information, please continue to check the employee hotline at 209-379-1186. For fire information, please call 209-372-0327 or 209-372-0329. For county related information you may also call the Mariposa County Event Hotline is 209-966-1133.

Yosemite has been though many difficult times this year, I have been incredibly impressed by the resilience of the community.

  3. Roberto Hernandez says:

What would you estimate the population in the entire fite zone. How # people in Yosemite West? Old EP? Are these mostly simple old cottages or luxury homes?

  4. Kathy Temby says:

thanks so much for keeping us updated. we have permits for 9/12. hoping for the people that live there that this is contained soon. You seem to have the best info on the fire. you are correct, hardly a mention on our local news in Sacto. Keep doing the wonderful job that you are doing. You have united people from all over and I think it is wonderful.
