The Yosemite Institute has partnered with the National Park Service for years to inspire youth to connect to the natural world through environmental education programs in Yosemite. They focus on Year-Round School Field Trips for grades K-12, Summer Field Research Course for 16-18 year olds and backpacking in the high Sierra for young women age 15 – 18.
The Yosemite Institute will be using a new name as of January 2012. – NatureBridge. There are currently four NatureBridge location: Yosemite, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Olympic National Park, and the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. All be known as “NatureBridge.”
Because of the nil snow at the park, the Ostrander Ski Hut will not open on December 16th as projected. The new plan is for Friday, December 23. Assuming the white stuff shows by then.
I first wrote a self published book on Half Dome before it was picked up by Wilderness Press and became the best seller it is. (Close to 10,000 copies sold since intro in 2007) While on a Half Dome hike I ran into Angela and Brenda. They told me they bought my first book and packed it along!! Wow! Hi ladies! Keep hiking….and get the latest book! The Smithsonian is looking for that one.
Unrelated thought worth quoting: “So you want to be a rock and roll star? Then listen now to what I say. Just get an electric guitar then take some time and learn how to play. And with your hair swung right, and your pants too tight. It’s gonna be all right.” – The Byrds
