Yosemite Half Dome permit lottery application period starts Sunday March 1

The Half Dome summer hike program will kick off May 22 – weather permitting. Maybe earlier if the drought continues.

Half Dome – the ultimate hike

Visitors – there is a lottery for permits. Anytime during March you can apply for up to 6 permits. See the PERMIT page for details.

No one is allowed past the rangers at the base of Sub Dome without one. Not even to “just look” at the cables.

You can cancel the permits with only 2-day notice. They will be recycled. If you do the hike and bailout up top, offer them to well prepared hikers along the trail who may not have gotten one. It’s legal, but the permits cannot be bought or sold.

  1. Maureen L says:

if the cables are up early, will all the permits be in the 2 days ahead lottery? (I think that’s what happened last year.)
