Half Dome – Yosemite Musing
Changes in the wind. The 2 major support organizations for Yosemite National Park are the Yosemite Association. And the Yosemite Fund. YA has been around since the 1920’s. They are based down in El Portal on Highway 140. You will see them at the Visitor Centers promoting the park. They also run the park bookstore and run educational programs including the Outdoor Adventures. YF is a much newer organization based in San Francisco. They solicit money from endowments and contributions. Their efforts brought us the remodeling of the Yosemite Falls access, the tunnel view and most recently the Highway 120 Half Dome view overlook. Both groups are “white hat” good guys. In a surprising announcement, both have decided to consider a merge” of functions. Seems in June, they hired a consulting company called The La Piana Group to interview the staff of both to look for overlapping functions and the possible new organization called the Yosemite Conservancy. A Task Force will continue the study and action is expected by the end of this year. Interesting.
