What is a park Concessionaire ?? Each National Park has one. It’s a  private company that really runs the park. The American public owns the park, the National Park Service administers it for us and the concessionaire does the day-to-day work.  They provide hospitality services including Lodging, Food and Beverage, Retail, Auto, and other Services within a National Park. At Yosemite, the current contract is held by DNC Parks & Resorts at Yosemite, Inc.  DNC as stands for Delaware North Company.  So named from the street they were once located on – NOT the state.  Many old timers will recall that the predecessor was the Yosemite Park & Curry Company.
DNC’s contract is up September 30 and a US Government Solicitation will be out for the new Concessionaire. The Department of the Interior (parent of the NPS) will use Solicitation Number YOSE004-11 for the competitive procurement. Companies who have expressed interest incude: HORNBLOWER YACHTS, INC. of San Francisco; URBAN PARK CONCESSIONAIRES of Red Bluff CA and PLASTIC RECYCLING of Iowa Falls, Inc. from Iowa Falls, IA. Word is out that the Disney conglomerate is also a possible. Should be fun.

Hey, keep your emergency water treatment iodine pills handy – looks like they could prevent radiation sickness! Ugh

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “I need to laugh, and when the sun is out. I’ve got something I can laugh about. I feel good, in a special way. I’m in love and it’s a sunny day. Good day sunshine – Good day sunshine.” – The Beatles

Not directly related to this post but we can’t create our own thread.

I went to the NPS.Gov website to sign up and get information on the upcoming webinar. “March 25 Workshop: Recreation Use along the Merced River Corridor”

Link was broken, what a surprise…

      Andy-man,

I try to be kind to the park – they read this blog – but accurate. The March 25 preso on the Merced and Tuolumne (I hate that spelling) is to be carried by a webinar process. With less than 2 weeks to go:

For those unable to attend the workshop in person, it will also be available online via a webinar. Look for more information on the public meetings page about how to register and log in to the webinar in the next couple of weeks.

      Then

We’re sorry, an error has occurred. We should have this resolved shortly.
