Yosemite National Park attracts nearly 4 million a year. Hey, it’s the BEST park in the world!! Those visitors sometimes lose control and need a whack on the side of the head. We can do that, but the cops there can’t. It’s the Protection Division that employs the sworn federal law officers to keep the peace.
Yosemite just hired a new Deputy Chief Ranger: Gus Martinez. After a search, he was selected from several qualified candidates. He will be on board in June and report to Kevin Killian, the Chief Ranger.
He will be tested early, as the 4th of July crunch hits.
Martinez will be relocating down from the north….he is currently the Bay District Ranger in Glacier Bay National Park in Alaska.
He has previously worked as the Chief Ranger of Padre Island NS, was a Supervisory Ranger at Big Bend NP, and a field Ranger at Point Reyes NS. He’s familiar with our turf – he was a Yosemite Valley Ranger from 1986-92.
Welcome aboard Ranger Gus Martinez!
