Winter Solstice

Half Dome – Yosemite Musing

It’s almost time to dance around your backyard Stonehenge. December 21 has been a time of gala festivities for millennia. Some think that the goings on were a precursor to our current Christmas time. What it means to me is the dawning of spring. I know we still have a few months to go, but now the days are no longer getting darker with each revolution. On the 22nd we will gain seconds more of daylight until we no longer have to use our headlights at 4:30 pm. Personally, I can’t stand winter. It’s too easy to veg out after dinner – while during the summer I love being active right up to bedtime. The lack of light is a major contributor to SAD – Seasonal Adjusted Disorder. Aka depression. Many people use artificial light tuned to a certain frequency to bathe in to get their serotonin levels up. Speaking of light – why do people still go to tanning booths? The intense UV-A and UV-B will give you leather skin and melanoma. They’ve proven it as certain as they have proven cigarettes can cause lung cancer. Yet tanning booths are still in business. It is because of the lack of Vitamin D we have been reading about lately? I have mine checked ast week just ot see. 32.5 on the scale. 32 to 99 is viewed as healthy with the lower extreme the better. One less thing to worry about.
