Half Dome – Yosemite Musing
December roared at us like it was going to be a long wet winter. Then January was like a kitten as we saw CA temps rising while our relatives ”back east” were shoveling snow for weeks. Looks like the precip will be coming this week. If you’re at the park and want something to do, there will be a lecture on Thursday, February 17, 8am to 9am in El Portal: Mercury In Yosemite–Is it Safe to Eat the Fish. Heather McKenny, Wildlife Branch, and Leland Tarnay, Physical Science and Landscape Ecology Branch will be presenting.
With all the snow at the park, ever wonder what critters are out and about? Here’s a few of the sighting or tracks reported: Pine Marten, weasel, White-tailed Jackrabbit, Coyote, Chickaree, robins, Mountain Chickadee, Red Breasted Nuthatch, Brown Creeper, Clark’s Nutcracker, American Robin, Northern Flicker, and Common Raven.
Anyone going to go up and try to see Horsetail Fall? And please DON”T call it the Firefall – that ended in 1968.
Facebook – I’m a bit of a dolt when it comes to social networking, but I finally have my own FB page for my Half Dome interests. Please come to the party (take your shoes off at the door) and click to www.facebook.com/MrHalfDome I think you have to login and LIKE it to be admitted to the dance hall. See you there.
Unrelated thought worth quoting: “If my business interests lay upon this coast, I would build a railroad to this truly marvelous valley, within one year from this date” – Thomas Scott, Pennsylvania Central R. R. 1859
