Early April. More screwy weather. I came in via Highway 120 and write this Epistle at the Pizza Factory in Groveland. It a pretty good place. Getting dinner spags for $8.00. Also free wifi. Recommended. For lunch, I love the Iron Door Saloon here.
It snowed a day ago, but temps are back up and there does not appear to be any issues with the road in. Big Oak Flat Rd runs up over 6,000 feet. The park website says 120 in the park is open…except for Tioga.
I’ll be staying at the Lasting Adventures Guide house here. They are the non-profit Yosemite Guides that I occasionally guide for. “Hike Half Dome with Mr Half Dome.” Cool marketing angle.
I’ll be here for the Yosemite Gateway Partners Quarterly meeting. It’s educational and attended by most of the nearby Visitor Centers, Tour Companies and Hotels. I love coming because the talks are great. Don Neubacher the Super gives an update and often YOSAR and other groups talk. Highlight for tomorrow is the presentation on the relocation of the Big Horn Sheep for the Eastern slope to their ancestral grounds in the Cathedral Range.
While I am here I’d be glad to pick up a copy of the Ken Burns Yosemite Anniversary DVD for you. With tax, shipping to your door, it’ll set you back $18. It is not sold anywhere except the Yosemite Conservancy Bookstores in the park. Not even Amazon or the Yosemite Conservancy website. But I must know by 11 am PDT Thursday. Leave a comment.
Unrelated thought worth quoting: “When a problem comes along, you must whip it. Before the cream sets out too long, you must whip it. When something’s goin’ wrong, you must whip it. Now whip it – into shape.” – DEVO
