Tissiack – Matron of Yosemite’s Half Dome

I recently found this neat image of Tissiak.

Tissiak - Indian name for Half Dome

Tissiak – Indian name for Half Dome

She was the Indian who drank Mirror Lake dry. Her husband got pretty mad and began to beat her. The spirits were upset and turned him into North Dome and her into South Done (Half Dome’s original name). Her cameo face is seen on the face of the rock.

RSmithIllustration (Rachel Smith ) is the artist. It sells for $200. She says: “It is painted on a 1/2 in thick slice of tree trunk, it has bark surrounding the edge. A clear coat of varnish protects the painting. It is ready to hang in your home, and makes a great conversation starter or gift.”

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “Yosemite Valley, to me, is always a sunrise, a glitter of green and golden wonder in a vast edifice of stone and space.” – Ansel Adams
