The crack Yosemite Trail crew spent today installing the stanchions and boards to the 600+ ft cables. Hikers with permits may access the top of the signature landmark of Yosemite a minute after midnight. Many push to be the very first ones up the cables. This means a 7-mile hike up in the chill of the night. Other mortals will arrive about 11 am for the pull up the 600+ ft at a 45 degree angle.
The gates are open – let the fun begin. Just think, there was an option to take the cables down. Kudos to the NPS for saving this iconic hike. Let’s shoot for NO falls in 2013. Maybe if we are good kiddies, they will increase the allotment.
The trail is clean right now…please pick up one piece of litter. This is YOUR park. And don’t let people get away with chucking apple cores, banana peels and orange rinds. The place is sacred – not a trash bin.
Unrelated thought worth quoting: “George Anderson, first man on top of Half Dome: Oct 12, 1875.” – Thanks George.
