Half  Dome – Yosemite Musing
As the weekend beckons us to the outdoors, I’ll refer you to SuperTopo.<HERE>, <HERE>  and <HERE> It’s the hard-core climber’s website. These are the folks who have the guts to go up vertical walls like flies. Not me. But I respect them. These are 3 threads that I stumbled upon that chat about the new Half Dome permit system. There have been hundreds of comments. Climbers who go up the face and use the cables to descend are not required to get permits, but they have some very interesting comments.  They see a “slippery slope” leading to regulation of climbing as an outgrowth. Paramount is the potential link from this permit system to one involving their sport. Currently climbing is self-regulated. (well, there are some rules like regulating waste.) If you don’t get the proper training and do it “correctly” you won’t continue. Here’s a great tongue-in-cheek image for our entertainment posted by “Corniss Chopper.”

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul.” – John Muir
