States may pay Feds to open up National Parks

The 400 odd units managed by the US National Park Service are shuttered. Citizens and international visitors are agog that OUR parks are closed. I mean WE own those parks…they were set aside for US – we the people. The NPS just manages them for us. Playtime is over – open those gates!!   Reminds me of Reagan’s blast to the Ruskies: “Mr Gorbachov, tear down that wall.” Mr. Obama: Open those gates.

Money talks – the big parks and their gateway towns are losing millions a day. A solutionà Governors in at least four states want to reopen the parks. Utah’s governor, Gary Herbert, said he had sent money that will open Utah’s five national parks. An agreement with Dept of Interior Secretary, Sally Jewell, would pay the NPS $166K  a day for the five major parks beginning this Saturday. He said that will keep them open for 10 days, and the state can buy extra days as needed.

Jewell said they will think about it.

Unrelated thought worth quoting: If you see oppression of the poor, and justice and righteousness trampled in a country, do not be astounded. – King Solomon
