What a day it was in San Jose by-the-sea. Got off my duff and did my favorite hike – Mission Peak in Fremont. If you can add this hike to your list, it’s really nice. Bring a jacket because it gets pretty nippy and windy at the top.
We could see the skyscrapers in San Francisco from our perch at about 2500 feet. The winds really blew away the smog. Mt Tamalpias was visible and to the east we could make out the snow on the higher peaks of the Sierra. Being a weekday it was pretty sparse with just a few other hikers up around noon.
This is my favorite training spot for Half Dome. I like to do it twice for a 6-hour trek before I feel I’m ready for HD. You get some good altitude and almost the rise from the Valley to HD at a bit over 4,700 feet. I’m kinda surprised I’m not dead or sore. Most of my winter workouts have been in a warm gym.
Did anyone else get out? The bay area is looking at temps getting into the low 70’s as the week rolls on – YES! And the stores are having end-of-season sales. YES!!
