Row your boat

Half Dome – Yosemite Musing

Back to school, fall colors, even thunderstorms in the Bay Area. Booo that means the summer of ’09 is drawing to a close. Gosh fall begins in about a week. Only a month to go until the cables come down. Sigh. If you are able to lay over on your 2010 Half Dome trip, consider renting a raft. You can use a Park raft (typically in June and July) or bring your own. (Other non-motorized vessels, such as kayaks, are also permitted.) Rafting is permitted on the Merced River between Stoneman Bridge (near Curry Village) and Sentinel Beach Picnic Area between 10 am and 6 pm. Rafting is also permitted on the South Fork of the Merced River in the Wawona area. There are rules at to whenthe river is open, so check with the DNC rental window near Curry. You must have a personal flotation device e for each occupant of the raft. Here’s a shot of the zillion rental rafts near the ice rink.
