Reel Rock 7 – It was Gooooood

Last night I saw the 2-hour Reel Rock 7 movie in Livermore with Jeanne, The Hiking Machine. Several hundred on a weeknight was nice. I am NOT a big wall climber, but do admire those that do it. This show is traveling, so find it near you soon. I blogged about it back on Nov 2.

It’s got 4 segments. First is about new emerging climbers, then a profile of Spanish granite climbing, a good section on women climbers, then 2 Brits who do crag climbing. A nice documentary about Sierra resident, Conrad Anker, and his climb to the “Center of the Universe:”  the Shark Fin.

Yosemite’s Mt Watkins; seen from Half Dome

The highlight for most was the triple crown by Alex Honnold of Mt Watkins, El Cap and Half Dome all in a day. He solo’d and did much of it free. Oh, Ladies, sorry, but he now has a girlfriend.

Lots of Yosemite footage. At only $10 in advance, it’ll psyche you up for 2013 fun.

Oh, the cops caught 4 men who robbed the Mariposa Museum of $1M in gold last month. Drugs involved. Dummies.

Unrelated thought worth quoting: You know that it would be untrue. You know that I would be a liar. If I was to say to you, girl, we couldn’t get much higher. Come on baby, light my fire.” – The Doors

One Response to Reel Rock 7 – It was Gooooood

At your suggestion, we saw this film last night in Pomona. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Like you, we are hikers, but thought it was an excellent presentation. Loved the humor in it as well. Even though I’m a sucker for anything with Yosemite in it my favorite section was the piece on The Wideboyz. What a testament to determination!! I too would recommend this film to anyone who enjoys the outdoors. Thanks Rick for the heads up!
