Steve Griffin, 22, is a a Salinas, CA hiker. Salinas is south of San Jose which makes it about a 5-hour drive to Yosemite He has just completed a solo hike on the Pacific Crest Trail, which runs through a  bit of Yosemite. A bit of his training was done at the park. He did the hike in 4 months and 2 weeks. From his starting point in Mexico, he hiked 2,668 miles The trail ends at Manning Park, British Columbia.

The hike started May 19 after months of logistical planning. Griffin had graduated May 11 from the University of Colorado with a degree in environmental science. He’d become interested in backpacking while earning his Eagle Scout ranking. I’ve been very impressed with men who I’ve met that were Eagle Scouts. I was never a Boy Scout – honestly, it was the dorky uniforms they wear. But I’d like to be one  now – not as an Adult leaser, but I want to learn their skills!

At Tuolumne Meadows (at mile 950) Steve’s parents an sibs joined him for a night of family camping. This trip burned through 5 pairs of shoes. A next goal?  Hiking the Appalachian Trail…. then  the Continental Divide.

But has he been to the top of Half Dome?

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “Set a goal – do it – then set another.” – A wise old man
