No room at the Inn

Half Dome – Yosemite Musing
Things were slow today so I poked around at the Yosemite DNC website for rooms at the park this summer. <HERE> Folks, You’d best get on with it if you are thinking about doing Half Dome this summer. The optimum (in my opinion) is to stay at the Curry Village Tent cabins.

Cheap, EZ trailhead access and the beds are fine.  The website shows mostly dark green – meaning NO AVAILABILITY – for June and most July weekends. August is still OK. While I on the site, I made a heated cabin reservation for March 26, 27. That is the weekend of the Yosemite Association Spring Forum. Well worth attending – but VERY cold. Maybe by then they will have settled the merger and we will be introduced to the new “Yosemite Conservatory.”
Unrelated thought worth quoting: “There’s a fog upon L.A. And my friends have lost their way. We’ll be over soon they said, now they’ve lost themselves instead.  Please don’t be long, please don’t you be very long, please don’t be long or I may be asleep.” –  Blue Jay Way, the Beatles

YA hasn’t sent their invite letters out yet . . .but the date of the event was announced as March 27. I like to book early to make sure I get a warm cabin.

June ’09 was a real anomaly with the weather. Almost 3 weeks of rain; usually June is pristine. I would never do the hike then drive home. Your eyes cross in the dark over those windy mountan roads. I crawl to the shower then jam some food down and crash!

I’ll be up there for a June 23 hike so holler if you want to join us. We have about 9 blog readers coming so far. Not guided – so you need to be self reliant. We leave Curry east end at 05:30.

I booked two nights june 2,3. Last time i left at 430, made it to the top before the clouds rolled in and walked down in the rain. Spent a whole 10 min on the top, before i went down. This year, i am going to stay overnight, driving home after that hike was tough. This year, i am going to kick back after and rest.

Did you get your letter from the Association on the Spring Forum already?
