Night Skies at Yosemite

This video by Steve Baumgardner has been viewed almost 300K times. It’s in High Def and will blow you away. Pipe this into your 60 inch flat panel plasma, dim the lights, grab some hot cider and groove. Think we are a teeny tiny part of it all? Makes all those petty issues vanish. Hiking to the top of Half Dome on a moonless night is a must for all hard core Doomers. I would not do it my first hike – it’s a pretty hard tail to follow in spots, even with a headlamp. And it’s pretty darn cold at 2 am above 7,000 feet.

Steve is a seasonal ranger at Sequoia National Park and has a contract with the Yosemite Conservancy to produce the Nature Notes. More are on the way, but it take a LOT of time to film and edit these.

The Nature Notes series has logged over 6 MILLION views. Analytics show that a person in every recognized country has seen an episode. Think of that – some dude in the tiny West African country of the Republic of Sierra Leone cranked up his tele to marvel – just like us. Even though he’ll probably never get a chance to see what many Americans take for granted.

Unrelated thought worth quoting: Kodachrome – You give us those nice bright colors, you give us the greens of summers. Makes you think all the world’s a sunny day.” – Paul Simon

I was lucky enough to watch the Perseid meteor shower from Glacier Point a couple of years ago. Absolutely amazing sight.
