The National Park Service to collaborate with the National Endowment for the Arts

Yosemite as a National Park is 125 this year. The 100th anniversary of the National Park Service is coming up – 2016. This year, the National Endowment for the Arts is turning 50. My, how time marches on. The NPS and NEA are working together.

The National Park Service 125th Anniversary is in 2016.

The initiative, entitled “Imagine Your Parks.” It’s designed to marry the mission of the two agencies to promote and protect the nation’s cultural and natural treasures.

The program will give $1 million in grants to any NPS external partner or organization that uses the arts to connect people with the National Park System and its programs.  It is not for  individuals.

Projects are not required to take place in a national park.

Show me the money. In other news, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will hold a hearing on the Department of the Interior’s budget request for FY16.  The new DOI Secretary, Sally Jewell will be pleading her case. She is formerly the CEO of REI.  Yosemite gets way less than it takes to run the park – that’s where the Yosemite Conservancy helps out.
