National Park Service classes

I’m pretty impressed with the knowledge of our NPS rangers at Yosemite. Only one exception, when a blog reader told me a ranger said that most hikers begin their trek up Half Dome at 3 am. WOW is that bogus. They do their best, but apparently some “wing it.” Here are some of the courses rangers can take to keep sharp.

Managing Archeological Collections

Archeology for Interpreters

The Wilderness Act of 1964

Wilderness Visitor Use Management

Natural Resource Management in Wilderness

NPS Mission and History Climate Change Leadership Series

Preservation and Treatment of Park Cultural Resources

Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act

Use of Force Instructor Training Fire Officer and Instructor Course

National Historic Preservation Act

So it’s not an easy job. A tip of the hat to our Yosemite Rangers!

Over many decades, I have found the rangers generally to be very knowledgeable about the park, nature, etc. The tools they are given, they do a great job and care about the job they are doing.
