Accidents-Recent

Update: It’s confirmed that Mr Ybarra died after a fall on this hike. He was 45 and apparently did not use a personal locator beacon. When he did not return as planned on Sunday, his sister sought help.

Michael Ybarra, a freelance writer and extreme-sports writer for The Wall Street Journal is missing while hiking in the Sawtooth Ridge, near Yosemite. This area is to the north of the park, near Bridgeport and Twin Lakes. He was due back Sunday and the park is helping locate him. The helicopter is up. This area has no trails and is for hard-core climbers. He was very skilled. He was not doing a story – just for fun along the mountain ridge lines.
