Let’s go hiking!

Half Dome – Yosemite Musing

Join me and a few of my friends – Half  Dome veterans and virgins alike  – this Saturday for a hike up one of my favorite training sites: Mission Peak in Fremont. The skies will be cloudy but dry. We go from Mission Blvd up the Ohlone trail to the top then back. Takes about 4 hours RT with about 2200 vertical feet up. Park near the Ohlone Deli: 43625 Mission Blvd # 101, Fremont, CA 94539-5800. (Set your car GPS) This is right across from Ohlone College. After the hike we hit the Deli for lunch. Bring all your stuff…poles, water, snacks… jacket for the top. On clear days the view of the SF Bay is impressive. We go rain or shine. We start walking at 9 am sharp.  No RSVP needed. See you there.

A short word about chains at Yosemite. Cick <HERE>to read all the rules. Any time chain controls are in effect, all vehicles must have chains in possession, including four-wheel drive and rental vehicles. Bottom line you HAVE to carry chains in your car – rental cars included. My Honda Civic manual says NOT to put chains on it!!!  It will void the warranty. What’s a guy to do? Drive to Mariposa and take the YARTS bus.

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “So get on up (get on up), on the floor (get on up). Get on up, now (get on up), and dance some more (get on up). Get on up (get on up), let’s boogaloo (get on up). Get on up, now (get on up). Just me and you (get on up). – The Esquires
