Lafayette Bunnell – Mariposa Battalion 1851 | He documented the Discovery of Yosemite

At a recent REI talk, I met Bonnie K.  She is a descendant of Lafayette Bunnell. He was the “medical man” with the Mariposa Battalion. They were the first whites to enter the Yosemite Valley in March of 1851. He documented the Discovery of Yosemite in a book he put out some 30 years later. A MUST read.

Many don’t know of him – yet if you want the truth about the Awahneechee and how the whites took over the valley, READ THIS.

There was some controversy if he was a REAL doctor.  Bonnie sent me is Medical Degree. It is dated 18634, he was a doctor.

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “I was feelin’ so bad. I asked my family doctor just what I had. I said “Doctor, Mr. M.D., Now can you tell me what’s ailin’ me, Doctor.” He said, “Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.” –  the Young Rascals
