Ken Burns again

Half Dome – Yosemite Musing

If you missed it the last time around, the PBS Ken Burns’ series, “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea,” is being rebroadcast again. So be sure to load up your recorder and stock up on popcorn. Plan on roosting on the couch for 12 hours starting January 27th. It will then appear on consecutive Wednesdays through March 3rd.  The trade rags say it was the second most watched series on PBS in the zero decade. Watched by 33 million, just behind “The War,” also by Burns, which attracted a total audience of 38 million viewers. I’m sure it got them a lot of pledges. It is very good.
Based on the comments and emails I’ve received on the last few blogs with scary photos, tomorrow will start a theme here I call “Scary Week.”  Nothing but “holy cow” Half Dome stories and photos. Should be fun.  Yall seem to like the “edge” stuff, but you will still get regular how-to, history, and gear stories. I hope you mention these when you tanking up at the local pub.
Mrs. Half Dome is in France for work (not fun – it’s freezing there), so Yosey and I are dining in high style. We did a long hike Saturday before the rains, so he got kibble and I feasted on a Mountain House freeze dried lasagna. Actually I am trying to use up my supplies before the expiration date. Not bad until I read the packaging. Holy cow – 1250 mg of sodium! Geez, 2,000 is the RDA.

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “A vigorous five-mile walk will do more good for an unhappy but otherwise healthy adult than all the medicine and psychology in the world.” – Paul Dudley White
