John Muir Trail named best on Earth – Yosemite shines

The Sunday insert magazine “USA Weekend” came out with their list of the “10 best hiking trails.” Yes, anyone can make up a list and the planet is too big to just have 10.

I would add the Milford track in the South Island of New Zealand. I’ve been on Milford Sound and it is a 3,000 ft deep pool bigger than Yosemite Valley. I’ve not done the hike.

US miners had to carry their gear up the pass

Those are men on the Chilcoot Trail

Another I’d like to do is the Chilcoot Trail in Alaska. Gold miners trudged up the pass at a very steep angle on the way to the Yukon gold rush.

The top 10 are:
1. John Muir Trail
2. Grand Canyon Rim to Rim
3. Mt Everest Base Camp
4. Mt Fritz Roy, Chile
5. The Narrows – Zion
6. Kalalau Trail Hawaii
7. Sentiero Azzuro, Italy
8. Mt Blanc
9. Inca Trail Peru
10. Overland Track, Australia

Read – Good light for hikes

How many have you been on?  I’m up to five. But I have to admit, I;m an ecletic guy – I do lkots of different things. I;’d rather go uynderwater than trek for weeks. I’ve got 250 scuba dives and am itching to get back in.

Unrelated thought worth quoting: I’m pickin’ up good vibrations; she’s giving me excitations.” – Beach  Boys
