If you are reading this blog – I am assuming you know who John Muir is. If not, you may want to go to Yellowstone instead of Yosemite. He is the big Kahuna, the Big Cheese, the Geeter with the Heater, the Big Boss with the hot sauce – shuckin’ and jivin’, reelin’ with feelin’, movin’ and a groovin’ who did more to make Yosemite the great place that it is, with access to all freedom loving people.  He died in 1914, but his memory lives on through his written words. To learn about Muir click <HERE>.

Did you know that the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA is the home of the John Muir papers? They are the keepers of the sacred scrolls that Muir left for us. To help future generations of Earthlings understand who he was, sculptor Will Pettee is making available beautiful Muir sculptures and busts available to a wide audience. He hopes to inspire greater appreciation and more deserving recognition for Muir. Pettee and his wife Karen are trying to raise $3000 for his new “Mountain Muir” sculpture to be installed at the UoP. They have raised $1,285 now, so your contribution can help.  They are providing gifts for donation at various levels.

There is a nice Muir sculpture in the Park Visitor Center. I do not know if Pettee did it.

They also want to install sculptures at Muir Woods, the park and Dunbar, Scotland (his birthplace).  To support the campaign, with “perks” for your contributions and a fascinating video of the making of “Mountain Muir,” visit their website <HERE>.

“Geeter with the heater, Boss with the hot sauce…” How does someone from California know about ’60s vintage Philly DJ and radio celeb Jerry Blavat?? I thought he was strictly a local South Jersey and Southeastern PA phenom.

      Rick,

I grew up in Arlington, VA and could pick up the Phili am stations late at night …. Jerry Blavat was neat. I memorized his schtic. YOU are the only one who has ever pinned it on the tail! I am also a major Greaseman fan.
