I recently blogged about UCLA track team runner, Kyle Williams, and his record time running from Happy Isles – to the top of Yosemite’s Half Dome and back. In a blazing 2 hours 23 minutes and 51 seconds. Yes, running round trip in the time it takes me to get to the top of the Mist Trail!
This beata the old records held first by Ryan Ghelfi and most recently by Rickey Gates. Ryan is a smart mechanical engineering student who is close to graduation. His home is in Walnut Creek and he attended De La Salle High School, in nearby Concord, CA. De La Salle holds the longest football winning streak of 151 games. See their story in the movie: When the Game Stands Tall
They are a Bay Area powerhouse in all sports and you have to be good to make any team. There are many pro players in th eNFL, MJB, Soccer, etc. Ryan wa an anchor on endurance events. He wants to transitio inoto ultra-marathons. He told me his heart rate when pumping is abuut 220. Whew.
Watch this candid interview as Kyle tells how he did it.
Unrelated thought worth quoting: “It’s the eye of the tiger, It’s the thrill of the fight. Rising up to the challenge of our rival. And the last known survivor stalks his prey in the night. And he’s watching us all with the eye of the tiger.” – Survivor
