Half Dome – Yosemite Musing
Ansel Adams took this great shot looking up the barrel of Half Dome. The photograph is called Monolith, the Face of Half Dome. There are only about 18 original prints still around. Many were burned. The 30 ft patch of earth on the bottom right is known as the Diving Board. Many hikers want to see this view as Adams did on April 17, 1927. Here’s how you get to the Diving Board.
Basically, continue thru Little Yosemite Valley and when the left “cliff” starts to peter out, hang a left towards Lost Lake. I prefer this to the scramble between Liberty Cap and Mt. Broderick as shown. Lost Lake is a sluggish body with sediment and may not be good to pump. So get water at the Merced at LYV to take up. Go to left of Lost Lake… then it’s a scramble. Click < here> to see the description of the route from smmitpost.org. Plan on over 10 hrs RT.
NEWS: The park has decided to postpone the Comments portion of the Merced River Plan 90 days… so all those presentations I mentioned a couple days ago are now cancelled. No explanation given. Again, I asked them to set up a conf call dial-in so more could participate. (Good luck.)
Unrelated thought worth quoting: “A Goddess on the mountain top. Was burning like a silver flame. The summit of beauty and love and Venus was her name. She’s got it; yeah, baby, she’s got it. Well, I’m your Venus – I’m your fire, at your desire.” – Shocking Blue
