Housekeeping

Not the place “Housekeeping,” but odds and ends around the blog.

We’ll be heading up to Yosemite for the Bracebridge dinner and performance this week.  A room at the Ahwahnee. Ooooo  ahhhh  I’ll blog about the show and dinner. They recommend tuxedos. I have one and might take it. Weather looks clear but I do have chains.

One of my fun things to do is speaking on cruise ships. I will be out Jan 6-20 so if you need a book or Tshirt let me know soon. I’m thinking of putting together an internet webinar class to teach how to it.  I get 3-4 Free cruises a year and just need to give four 45-minute talks. If I get something done I’ll invite guys.

It’s confirmed by Wilderness at the park – the Half Dome Stewardship Plan Environmental Assessment will not be out until January. Dunno if early or late. So enjoy the break but be ready to write in your comments. I don’t want to be a scaremonger, but “take the cables down” is one alternative.

Medical Minute: Saw my orthopedic Dr on Tuesday. No more leg brace or crutch. I’m now in rehab and have to build up slowly. My left thigh is teeny tiny and week. He said I need to go slow and it could take 4 months for full strength. Ditto my collarbone. Said the pull up the cables could be harder on the left side. Just need to get other muscles involved. Whew – not bad – 6 weeks since getting off a Harley at 30 mph. Funny – I didn’t get a ticket but was noted that I was in violation of a Code – When on a Mt road vehicle must be kept under control – Duh.

Here’s a neat shot of an ornament from Kathy T of Sacto. Snoopy on HD??

Unrelated thought worth quoting: “Hello? Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me Is there anyone at home? Come on, now – I hear you’re feeling down. Well I can ease your pain. Get you on your feet again. . . . I have become comfortably numb.” – Pink Floyd

    Hi Rick,

I am glad to hear that you are healing up and getting some mobility back.

I can only begin to imagine what you have endured. Three weeks ago, I fell off my dual sport bike and broke 1 rib. I was sliding backwards down a steep trail at less than 1 mph, so it was nothing like your accident. I am only now able to tolerate sleeping in a bed and am no longer deathly afraid of having to sneeze. I can’t imagine what 8 busted ribs must feel like (in addition to your other injuries).

My medical treatment involved a brief visit to the emergency room, room, two x-rays to confirm a fractured rib and two pain pills. The bills started to arrive today. So far, $3,500 and counting. Ouch!

I hope you will be able to enjoy your stay at the Ahwahnee and the upcoming holidays. Take care…

The doctors told me I would not sleep for 6 weeks. It was “only” about 5. but sucked. I still can;t lay on my left side and the collarbone glows a bit also…but am walking and being my goofy self. I’ve got bottles of percaset and oxycotine but really never took much of any. -they do work though – a little Tylenol is about it. I’m on my wife’s insurance but the tow bill to get the bike back from the eastern Sierra to SF was $1400, the ambulance was $2600 and the damage to the rental bike was $15,000 – luckily I take the big coverage so my deductible was $1,000 – whew. Mrs Half Dome has not lectured me – but I don;t know what my future with motorcycles will be. Helmet and padded gear worked.

We are looking fwd to Bracebridge. they suggest a tuxedo – and I have one – so I’ll wear it. I’ve stayed at the Ahwahnee before. You pay for the history not for the accomodations. 1927 it opened. neat.

Carpe Diem my friend – keep at the edge of the envelop. I dont; want to live in a secure bubble.
