With one week left to hike Half Dome, hikers to Yosemite might be hosed. The govt shut down – shut down the park. It took a few days to phase down everything. Only essential staff are on duty. I assume that the hundreds out of work are not just laying around waiting. Many will need to pick up side jobs. Handy man . . . mow lawns . . . working at the car wash. Some may head out for that long postponed vacation. All will need to be on telephone access. Easy with cell phones.

don’t look for the web to help out much. Only the Department of the Interior (NPS parent) website is operating. Check the site out – it features Bridalveil Fall gushing. Daily Reports and other regular publications are null and void.

You can also assume that if the appropriations get done and the funding opens up the gates, that there will be a similar phase up to get the park back in order.
