On the heels of the news of 2 young boys drowning in the Merced this week at Yosemite, comes the news that two people have contracted the Hanta Virus while staying at Curry Village. One, a 37-year old man has died. A 40-year old woman is recovering. Health officials say the virus is often spread by contact with mouse droppings in June. Hanta can cause cardiopulmonary problems in susceptible adults with lung issues. It is rare but worth knowing about.
- Deer mice carry the hanta virus. Yosemite is increasing their anit-rodent program….more cats??? I know the little guys can get thru very small holes in the tent cabins and have had my pack nibbled into. Now I consider the bear vaults as “mice proof vaults.”
